Dear Parents and Students: School Safety The recent events at Deer Creek Middle School remind us that school safety is a daily priority for every school staff. We rely on the eyes and ears of students, staff and parents to make sure the building is always safe. · Signs at each academy entrance direct parents, vendors and visitors to the main entrance of the building. · All visitors must buzz the main office for entrance to the school · All visitors is required to sign in and present photo identification · Before students are released during the school day, parents/guardians are screened to protect the safety of our children · Cameras monitor entrances and hallways throughout the building · Monthly fire drills are conducted · Shelter-in-place and lock down drills are conducted each year · Random locker inspections are conducted in the junior academy and locker rooms · Playground and recess rules and expectations are revisited daily · Students in the elementary and junior academy have had formal bully proof training with officers of the Denver Police Department. · Primary teachers, our Student Support Manger and Social Worker address bullying, "Good Touch, Bad Touch" and building positive relationships. Please encourage your child to speak to their classroom or homebase teacher or a trusted adult at any time. Students and parents may also use "Safe 2 Tell" a national hotline used by our school which is focused on school safety and bullying. This is 24-hour anonymous hotline: 877-542-SAFE or www.safe2tell.org. We follow the Emergency Response & Crisis Management Team protocols for the Denver Public Schools required following the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999. Part of our commitment to the Omar D. Blair School Family is a safe learning environment for every child. Please contact us with your questions. Deborah Blair-Minter, Principal LaMar K. Wilson, Academy Director 303-371-9570, ext 1109 303-371-9570, ext 1102 Parents, It's Your Turn to Make It Happen! All year long, students and staff have worked hard to make student achievement a priority at Omar. D. Blair. March 2nd through March 12th is the window for CSAP testing. We need parents to partner with your children to be at school between 7:45 and 8:00 AM during our testing window. Students have a thirty-minute prep time to prepare for testing which begins promptly at 8:30 AM. Students who are tardy to school and arrive after 8:30 AM will NOT be allowed to test that morning. Tardy students will be held in the office. Parents, we need you to set the alarm 15 minutes earlier and get your students to school by 7:45 AM. If you do this, we can MAKE IT HAPPEN!
